Sky names strong team for Froome at Tour de France

PARIS – Defending champion Chris Froome will enjoy the support of a squad featuring strong climbers at the Tour de France next month.

Aiming to win cycling’s showpiece race for a third time, Froome will be joined by Sergio Henao, Vasil Kiryienka, Mikel Landa, Mikel Nieve, Wout Poels, Luke Rowe, Ian Stannard and Geraint Thomas on the roads of France this summer.

The 3,519-kilometer race features 28 mountain passes this year, as well as two individual time trials, a route that perfectly suits the all-rounder Froome.

Point guards on the move, highlighted by Rose deal

NEW YORK – The New York Knicks acquired Derrick Rose from the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday, hoping the former NBA MVP can be their answer at point guard.

The Knicks sent center Robin Lopez and guards Jose Calderon and Jerian Grant to the Bulls in the deal. New York also received guard Justin Holiday and a 2017 second-round pick.

New coach Jeff Hornacek said recently the Knicks needed a point guard and Rose was one of the NBA’s best before multiple knee injuries slowed the former No. 1 pick’s career. He played in 66 games last season, his most in five years, and averaged 16.4 points.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Pacers traded one Indianapolis native for another Wednesday, sending George Hill to Utah and acquiring Jeff Teague in a three-team swap that also includes Atlanta.In Teague, Indiana gets the true point guard it has long wanted while Hill adds defense and depth to a spot that could be in flux for the Jazz if point guard Dante Exum comes back slower than expected from a torn ACL that cost him the entire 2015-16 season.

NFLPA yanks registration of accused financial adviser

WASHINGTON – The NFL Players Association indefinitely suspended the registration of a financial adviser accused of cheating several professional athletes out of millions of dollars in a Ponzi-like scheme.

The SEC alleges in a federal lawsuit filed last month in Dallas that Narayan secretly siphoned millions of dollars from accounts he managed for professional athletes and invested them in a struggling online sports and entertainment ticket business on whose board he served. No criminal charges have been filed.

Denver Broncos quarterback Mark Sanchez is among the athletes cheated out of more than $30 million.

Kane wins Hart Trophy as MVP, among other awards

LAS VEGAS – After Patrick Kane took a moment to appreciate his new place in American hockey history.

The Chicago Blackhawks’ NHL scoring champion won the Hart Trophy on Wednesday night, becoming the first player born and trained in the U.S. to be named the league’s MVP.

Kane also claimed the Ted Lindsay Award after his fellow players recognized him as the game’s most outstanding player. He even accepted the Art Ross Trophy in recognition of leading the league with his 106-point season – another first for an American player.

Chile’s early goals enough against weather, Colombia

CHICAGO – Charles Aranguiz and Jose Pedro Feunzalida scored in the first half, and defending champion Chile returned to the Copa América championship with a soggy 2-0 victory over Colombia on Wednesday night.

Led by Claudio Bravo’s stellar effort in goal, Chile earned its fourth consecutive win since a 2-1 loss to top-ranked Argentina in their Group D opener.
