DHS Troupe 1096 presents new piece

“Shattered Constellations” is a devised piece of new theater created by the upperclassmen of Durango High School Troupe 1096.

The production was crafted using personal life experiences to create fictional stories, which explore our connection to the darkness of our own human nature.

Directed by Ben Mattson and Erin O’Connor, the show is comprised of a series of vignettes, where metaphoric patients fight against their darkness to find light, connection and love.

“Shattered Constellations” show dates are Friday, Saturday, May 12, May 13 and May 14. The show will start at 7 p.m. at the DHS Auditorium, 2390 Main Ave. Tickets are $10 general public, $5 students.

Tickets on sale Friday for Paula Poundstone

Award-winning humorist Paula Poundstone has been added to the 2016 Summer Season lineup at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College.

Poundstone will perform at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19. Tickets are $34/$28.

Artist in Residence now at Mesa Verde

Quilt artist Susan Madden will serve as Mesa Verde National Park’s first Artist in Residence for 2016 now through May 15. Madden will present an interactive program for visitors at Mesa Verde at 7 p.m. May 13 in the Chapin Mesa Archaeological Museum auditorium.

Visitors will have the opportunity to create their own artistic works using bleach pens on fabric, which they will then be able to take home as a reminder of their visit to Mesa Verde.

Madden, who lives in Salt Lake City, has been an artist for more than 35 years and currently creates landscape quilts. Using applique and piecing techniques, she layers pieces of different colored and textured fabric to create realistic landscapes, which she then quilts on her home sewing machine.

Open Shutter Gallery to host Artist Talk

The Open Shutter Gallery will host a gallery talk and preview to the upcoming exhibit titled “Animalia,” with internationally renowned photographer Nine Francois. The talk will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday. Francois is known for her square, sepia-toned black-and-white images of domestic and exotic wild animals.

The opening reception and the Durango Gallery Association’s annual Spring Gallery Walk will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. May 13. The Open Shutter Gallery is located at 735 Main Ave.
