100 years ago: “Local auto drivers who yesterday returned from Pagosa Springs say the Archuleta County road, from the Springs west to the La Plata County line is in remarkably fine shape, smooth as city driveways.”

75 years ago: “Vice squads under the leadership of D.A. James M. Noland and La Plata County Sheriff Bruce Sullivan this morning confiscated gambling equipment worth hundreds – thousands even – of dollars found in ‘joints’ in Durango and vicinity.

50 years ago: “The Rocky Mountain division of the U.S. Ski Association voted Sunday to hold its 1967 meeting in Colorado Springs and its 1968 session in Durango. The Steven Gates Memorial Scholarships went to Paul Canatsey of Durango, Ronald Schnackenberg of Steamboat Springs and Meredith Cox of Aspen.
