Michael McFaul, former U.S. ambassador to Russia, has performed an immense service to our country in laying out what must be done to combat Russian cyber warfare against the United States (see his article posted in the Sept. 28 online edition of The Washington Post).
The problem is urgent and of the utmost seriousness. Despite almost daily grave new revelations of criminal Russian interference in our democratic processes both before and after last fall’s elections – and they are almost certain to continue into the future – Trump is still pretending, as he tweeted a few days ago, that “The Russian hoax continues.” For this alone he should be impeached and removed from office.
Given the long continuing stonewalling by Trump on this matter, and the presence of Mike Pompeo, a Trump accomplice, as director of the CIA, Congress must act immediately (and state governments, too) to counter this grave threat.
Failure to do so would amount to complicity with Trump’s betrayal of our country.
