I realize that the left has always tended to be anti-Semitic (witness the lack of effort to save the Jews that Hitler was killing in World War II), but at some point in time the anti-Israel sentiments of the Democrats and the left need to stop. The cartoon (Herald, Dec. 30) indicating that Israel was trying to capture or retain the so-called “West Bank” is absurd and ignores history.
The “West Bank” is a term the Arabs and the left use to hide the fact that the land was the ancient countries of Samaria and Judea. The word “Jew” is derived from Judea, the home country of the Jews for 3,000 years. The idea that the Jews are somehow stealing Judea from the Arabs is an absurdity based on either ignorance or deception.
Israel has offered a two-state solution to the Arabs a number of times.
The Arabs have repeatedly refused and sworn to kill all Jews. The Islamic religion calls for death and destruction of the Jews in the same way that it calls for the same bad things for Christians and Hindus. Islamic dicta are the problem, not the Israelis.
I looked online trying to find a fairly concise history of the state of Israel which was formed in 1948 (and recognized by the United Nations), and found one site that has a history, albeit it seems to be a Jewish site. It might be worthwhile for people to read the actual history rather than be swayed by biased editorial cartoons: http://www.shamrak.com/Masada2000-HistoryofPalestine.htm
