After the recent trial where Dr. Larry Nassar plead guilty to sexual assault of girls (ages 6 to teens), I talked to a friend in Arizona. We both exchanged horror stories that took place in the early 1970s when we were raped and the legal system, not justice system, failed us.
My friend and her 21-year-old twin were overpowered by two bodybuilders and taken to a remote area of the desert. They were then brutally beaten and raped. The license plate was memorized, but in court the men got off and one repeated the same gruesome deed two years later.
During a college party, I unwittingly overdosed from punch laced with mega-doses of LSD. My parents could not swing a costly stay in a private facility, and I ended up in a county psychiatric ward.
While I was taking heavy medication that kept me bedridden, an orderly locked himself in my room and raped me. No one believed me, like no one believed patients of Dr. Nassar.
But after more than 20 years of “practice,” he was finally put away.
