Harry missed connecting with the company when the first call for the militia was issued, having been in the La Platas. Allen is joining to learn the business and see the strike developments with his own eyes.”
75 years ago: “As an important feature of the San Juan Basin Seed & Poultry show now in progress in Durango, old time dance contests and exhibitions will be held. One of the more interesting exhibitions will be that sponsored by the WPA, in charge of Mrs. Mildred Busch. The old Swedish folk dance, ‘Bleking’ will be demonstrated.”
50 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled Girl About Town: “Purely Gossip: Which local super-market has trouble with its spelling? At one time it was advertising ‘pete’ moss and now emblazons a ‘festivel’ of values.”
25 years ago: “A junior high school principal who’s banned students from wearing T-shirts that display skulls and bones says he’s protecting children from Satanism. ... He said he enforced the new dress code earlier this month as a way to ‘strip the armor’ from students who could be influenced by Satanism.”
