50 years ago: “It’s the Raiders at Fort Lewis College. Students voted overwhelmingly in favor of adopting the name ‘Raiders’ for the athletic teams. ... School officials said the students planned to determine what a ‘Raider’ actually looks like, and on the basis of this information select names for both the student yearbook and the student newspaper.”
25 years ago: An advertisement for the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad read, “Thank you, Durango ... for your support in making our eighth year a success! To celebrate the occasion the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad proudly announces another Durango to Silverton Appreciation Day Train. $5 per person round trip.”
