The West is History

100 years ago: “E. A. Lee, of Breen, was in town and loaded up a wagon with flour at the Graden store to haul home for the making of hotcakes during the cold winter months.”

75 years ago: “Following a delectable luncheon downtown, members of the Wednesday Bridge Club adjourned to the home of Mrs. Jean Sloan McLean, where they enjoyed their regular game.”

50 years ago: “Tickets are now on sale for the testimonial dinner honoring Olympic ski coach Dolf Kuss. The dinner, featuring Swiss steak, will cost $3 for adults and $2 for those under 16.”

25 years ago: “The Colorado State Patrol found cocaine, marijuana and a half-dozen concealed weapons as troopers stopped vehicles west of Durango. The checkpoint, near Hesperus Ski Area, was the second this hunting season set up the State Patrol and Division of Wildlife. Of the 113 vehicles checked by the State Patrol, violations were found in 81 of them. Most were traffic or safety problems.”
