A dentist’s Thanksgiving for fluoridation

I am thankful for the public health pioneers that discovered the benefits of fluoridation in reducing dental decay (caries).

Indeed, I thank T. Harold Wilson and his fellow Durango City Council members that passed public water fluoridation 60-plus years ago. They helped save more teeth than any dentist.

I am thankful that most of my dental patients were able to have their teeth for their lifetime. Fluoride played a huge part in this.

I thank our present City Council members that voted to continue the benefits of fluoride in 2016.

I am thankful for the money saved by consumers that had lowered dental bills. I am thankful for our children’s beautiful smiles.

Carl E. Johnson, D.D.S.
