With regard to Joan Rosenberg’s letter (Herald, Feb. 19), the Durango Education Foundation has established a program to connect those interested in volunteering their services, knowledge or expertise with teachers and students who can use their help: It’s called the DEF Fellows (def-fellows.org).
It is a simple online directory service, with an easy registration process for volunteers and searchable by Durango 9-R educators.
Now, we need the community’s help: We need people to register as fellows and create their listings so the teachers can find them.
Fellows can state what type of service they are willing to contribute, such as classroom presenter, tutor, advisor for a student project, and more. Fellows can also identify which schools they are interested in and what days and times they are available.
Today’s educators are expected to present students with a rich array of learning opportunities, and the community can provide a vital resource.
We hope Joan Rosenberg and many other community members will sign onto the DEF Fellows Directory and help DEF provide this service to our public schools.
