Best bets for the weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend include Saturday’s Run for the Mountains 10K Run and Chile Chase Cook-off and a bear hike with Bear Smart Durango on Sunday.

The 10K run is a challenging run through Overend Mountain Park to benefit the San Juan Mountains Association. Registration fee includes membership to San Juan Mountains Association, a conservation-themed T-shirt and entry to the Chili Chase Cook-off, which will feature more than 20 dishes from local businesses.

All activities will be held at Backcountry Experience, 1205 Camino del Rio. The race also begins and ends at Backcountry.

Pick up your race packet beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The run will start at 9:30 a.m., and the cook-off will begin at 11 a.m.

Race registration is $50, and the chili tasting is $10. And while you’re at it, help safeguard the San Juans by asking your friends and family to sponsor your Run for the Mountains.
