Best bets this weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend include NTLive: A Midsummer Night’s Dream and “God Help Us!”

Animas City Theatre will host two showings of NTLive: A Midsummer Night’s Dream at 11 a.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the theater, 128 E. College Drive.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare tells the story of a feuding fairy king and queen of the forest who cross paths with four runaway lovers and a troupe of actors trying to rehearse a play. As their dispute grows, the magical royal couple meddle with mortal lives leading to love triangles, mistaken identities and transformations with hilarious but dark consequences.

Shakespeare’s most famous romantic comedy will be captured live from the Bridge Theatre in London and broadcast via satellite all over the world by National Theatre Live.

Tickets are $14-$18 and may be purchased online at bit.ly/37ohzks.

Farmington Civic Center will host a show and workshop with legendary actor Ed Asner. “God Help Us!” will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and a free workshop will be offered at 1 p.m. Sunday at the civic center, 200 W. Arrington St., Farmington.

In the show, Asner plays a wise, cantankerous and funny deity who confronts two political pundits with a romantic history. The show speaks to audiences of all political persuasions with one essential argument: People have to listen to each other in order to live – and laugh – together. Tickets are $8-$18 and may be purchased by calling (505) 599-1148 or visiting www.fmtn.org/CivicCenter.

During his Sunday workshop, Asner, an eight-time Emmy Award winner, will talk about his acting career and voiceover work, including his starring role as Carl Fredricksen in Pixar’s 2009 Oscar winning film “UP!”

This is a free event open to the public. For more information, call (505) 599-1148 or visit www.fmtn.org/CivicCenter.
