Purgatory Resort is extending its ski season for this weekend. This gives skiers and boarders one last weekend to pay homage to the original Lift 8, or Legends Lift, and celebrate the new high-speed quad that will be installed for Purgatory's 50th season next winter. Resort officials announced that lift tickets will be free for all guests for Purgatory's final closing day.
Last week, Purgatory revealed the future plans for Lift 8. The lift will be replaced this summer with a high-speed detachable quad chairlift that will open during the 2015-2016 winter. The new Legends Lift will transport guests to the summit of Purgatory in just 5 minutes, providing a much faster ride time, easier loading and unloading, and allowing for more skiing.
As part of the Lift 8 retirement party, guests will enjoy a special lift ticket offer of two lift tickets for $50 on Saturday, and free lift tickets for Purgatory's final closing day. All Purgatory Season Passes, including Weekday Only Passes are valid on closing weekend.
All guests must pick up a free lift ticket at the Purgatory Ticket Office prior to loading the lift.
The Lift 8 retirement party will conclude with a live performance by Hello Dollface on the Dante's Deck, noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Purgatory will celebrate its 50th anniversary during the 2015-2016 season, although the resort got a jump-start on the festivities with the recent announcement to change the resort's name back to Purgatory and the news to replace the 30-year-old Legends Lift.
