Rockies send an arm to the New York Yankees
NEW YORK – The Yankees obtained pitching prospect Chris Martin from the Colorado Rockies for cash.
The 28-year-old right-hander made his big league debut with the Rockies last April and had a 6.89 earned-run average and 14 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings over 16 relief appearances.
The 6-foot-8 Martin had been designated for assignment last week to open a roster spot for catcher Nick Hundley.
To clear a spot on the 40-man roster Tuesday, the Yankees designated right-hander Gonzalez Germen for assignment.
Price heads 175 players who file for salary arbitration
NEW YORK – Pitchers David Price, Stephen Strasburg, Jeff Samardzija, Rick Porcello, Ian Kennedy and Doug Fister were among 175 players who filed for salary arbitration Tuesday and are set to swap proposed figures with their teams this week unless they agree to contracts.
Price figures to file the highest figure unless his case settles before Friday’s exchange. The 2012 AL Cy Young Award winner made $14 million last year while playing for Tampa Bay and Detroit.
Baltimore first baseman Chris Davis is likely to file for the highest amount among position players. The 2013 major league home run champion had a $10.35 million salary and earned a $150,000 performance bonus last year, when he served all but one game of a 25-game suspension for a positive test for Adderall, a banned amphetamine.

Assault charges dismissed against star Hope Solo
SEATTLE – A judge near Seattle has dismissed misdemeanor assault charges against soccer superstar Hope Solo.
Solo, a goalie for the U.S. women’s national soccer team and the Seattle Reign professional club, had been charged with two counts of fourth-degree domestic violence assault stemming from a June altercation with her half-sister and 17-year-old nephew.
Kirkland Municipal Court Judge Michael Lambo dismissed the charges Tuesday. The judge agreed to let Solo attend a training camp rather than Tuesday’s hearing.
Solo’s lawyer, Todd Maybrown, sought to have the charges dismissed on the grounds that the alleged victims were uncooperative.
