50 years ago: “Very slow. Quite slow. Real slow. That was the report from precincts around La Plata County where voters were casting their ballots in three Republican primary contests.”
25 years ago: “A conference committee of U.S. House and Senate members approved $5.9 million in construction funding for the Animas-La Plata Project. The committee’s action sends the allocation back to the House and Senate for final approval and then to President Bush. The funds would be the first for construction of the $380 million project, which was authorized in 1968. Preliminary work could begin this fall, although actual construction will take 12 years.”
