Railfest brings ‘Night Passage’ to ACT

The True West Railfest is bringing a free screening of the 1957 film “Night Passage” to the Animas City Theatre, 128 E. College Drive, at 8 p.m. Thursday.

The film, which stars James Stewart and Audie Murphy, follows a fired railroad man who is rehired to carry a $10,000 payroll in secret, even though he is suspected of being connected to outlaws.

Thursday is the first day of Railfest. The festival will continue through Sunday with train and railbus rides, a street dance, Wild West performances and more. Visit www.durangotrain.com for more information.

Tracey Belt to teach enameling class

Metalsmith and jewelry maker Tracey Belt will teach an introduction to enameling class Aug. 23.

The class will take place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Four Corners Gem & Mineral Club, in the turquoise building on the 2300 block of Main Avenue.

Belt will cover various enameling techniques using opaque and transparent glasses, stencils and cloisonné. Participants will create several glass on metal designs, including an enamel pendant.

The class costs $75; materials are included. Email trazy@frontier.net to register.

Belt will also teach a beginning small metals class Aug. 30-31.

Sendero seeking photos for calendar contest

Sendero Gallery is seeking photographs for inclusion in the inaugural Durango Arts Calendar Contest.

The contest will select 12 photographs to feature in the 2015 Durango Arts Calendar. One image will also be picked for the coveted cover photo.

The deadline for submissions is Aug. 31. Winners will be announced at a reception and calendar unveiling reception Sept. 18. The calendars will be sold at Sendero and the Durango Arts Center.
