La Plata County Historical Society announced it recently hired Jeff Hutchinson as the new director of the Animas Museum.
Hutchinson, who grew up on the Front Range, is from a family of Colorado pioneers who originally settled during the 1870s in Salida. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas State University, has a background in fine arts and architecture, and has managed several state- and county-level historical sites.
While working for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, he received an employee of the year award in 1997 and won, as executive director of its African-American History Committee, the “Team of the Year 2000” award.
