In the 1950s, parades in Durango often traveled north to south unlike most parades travel today. Here, the parade has just crossed the Main Avenue bridge as it nears 15th Street. The VFW is still in the same location today. To the right, City Cleaners and part of the Oliger Sheet Metal Co. can be seen. This float, sponsored by the local Coors distributor, certainly captured the parade-goers’ attention. – Ed Horvat for Animas Museum, edhorvat@animasmuseum.org (Courtesy of La Plata County Historical Society)
