The Bayfield High School Wolverines finished a spectacular season with a 3-2 loss to University High School of Greeley on Friday. The girls face Pagosa Springs next to finish pool play in the 3A volleyball state tourney at the Denver Coliseum.
In spite of impressive hitting by Bayfield's senior players, Wolverine volleyball lost the first game of pool play at the 3A state tournament to University High School of Greeley.
BHS lost the first set, 30-28, then came back to win the next two, 25-19 and 25-16.
University then battled back for the next two sets, winning 25-23 and 15-11.
Bayfield has one more round of pool play at 8 a.m. Saturday against Pagosa Springs. University defeated Pagosa Springs earlier today, so Bayfield's loss to University puts the girls out of contention to advance into the state semi-finals tomorrow.
