75 years ago: “Two car loads of ore have arrived in Durango from the Mayflower Mill in Silverton. Six more cars are reported ready for shipment from the Mayflower Mill.”
50 years ago: “The City Council approved a 45-day extension for vacating the property on the West Side. This will give the few remaining residents until Nov. 15 to move out instead of the original deadline of Oct. 1. Many of the residents have already moved out, but some have purchased property and have been unable to obtain possession. Others are in the process of moving their houses to another site.
25 years ago: “East Fork Joint Venture, the firm developing the proposed East Fork Ski Area west of Wolf Creek Pass, has begun studies to collect data for a Master Development Plan that will take about three years to complete. Weather-monitoring devices are being installed to measure wind, temperature and moisture, and the data will be used to plan lift and trail locations. Special lasers are monitoring geological movements of the mountain. In addition, two paths, each about 30-40 feet wide, have been cleared as pilot trails that will be test groomed this winter to determine the condition of the snow. Skiers will be used to see how skiable the slopes really are.”
