Senior Outdoor events to be held
The Senior Outdoors Group will hold following events: Snowshoe with John Martin at 9 a.m. Saturday. A shovel will be required on all trips. Turn backs with a partner may be permitted. Cross Country Skiing Trip to Lower La Plata Canyon at 9 a.m. Monday If snow conditions are unfavorable for skiing, then snowshoes will be used along the creek bed. WW hike: Animas River Trail at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Walk the River Trail from Santa Rita to Home Depot and back. May turn back sooner or go on to Escalante subdivision if desired. No RSVP required. Dogs must be on leash per city ordinance. For more information, call 247-1130.
Skate ski clinic classes on Saturday
The Nordic Center at Purgatory will hold a skate ski clinic at 1 p.m. Saturday. Classes for skiers of all ability levels will be held. The cost is $25 for Nordic season pass holders or $30 for other skiers. Equipment rentals are available at the Nordic Center. For more information or to sign up, call 385-2114.
Locals place at Ski Classic
The winners of the 43rd-Annual Chili Chama Ski Classic are:
Steve Ilg placed first with a time of 26:42 in the men’s 6K.
Jennifer Martin of Pagosa Springs placed first with a time of 35:02 in the women’s 6K.
Durango cyclist Greg Lewis (36) finished second with a time of 1:12:25 int the men’s 18K.
Debra Sussex from Durango placed first with a time of 1:15:21 in the ladies’ 18K
Maria Santiago of Durango finished with a time of 2:00:43
Ilg placed second in the men’s 12K classic with a time of 51:41.
6k Snowshoe Race: 45 snowshoers took on the demanding course which had remained in superb condition due to the below-freezing temps on Cumbres Pass. Durango was represented by two racers who both won their Age Groups.
Ilg who won the 50-59 AG in a time of 48:52 in the 6K Snowshoe Race. Dewa Ilg 0-9 AG in a time of 1:13:54.
Patrick Sewell from Pagosa Springs placed first with a time of 30:02 in the 6K Overall.
18k Overall Podium:
Mathew Wolford from Pagosa Springs placed first with a time 1:02:03 in the 18K Overall. Ilg placed third with a time of 1:13:51.
