Skyhawks get past UCCS

FLC women win third in a row

The Fort Lewis College women’s soccer team hopped on top early and held off UC-Colorado Springs 2-0 on Sunday in Colorado Springs.

It was the third win in a row for FLC (13-23-0, 9-3-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) and avenged an earlier home loss to the Mountain Lions (9-5-1, 6-5-1 RMAC).

Megan Striedel scored her first goal of the year in the 24th minute off an assist from Grace Sheridan, who started on defense for FLC with Nicole Schumacher out. Sam Weiss added her ninth of the year five minutes later for the final tally.

“(Striedel has) been working really hard, I think, to get better and better with the decision’s she’s making, and we talked a little bit about it before the game and said, ‘Just relax, find yourself in front of the net and strike it,’” FLC head coach Damian Clarke said.

Caitlyn Espinosa made four saves for the clean sheet. FLC held a 12-10 edge in shots, led by Striedel’s three, all of which ended up on frame.
