And the West is History

100 years ago: “Albert Pierson was down the first of last week from the Bonner Mine near Burro Bridge and is laying in some more supplies, as well as arranging for the shipment of some ore as soon as the snow gets off a little more in this section so that he can get the pack animals up to the property.”

75 years ago: “The guys and gals will rally ’round Tuesday when there will be big doings at Trimble. Deciding that, how the time is ripe to taste samples of the culinary art of the fairer sex, members of the Durango Booster Club have instigated a box supper to bring a bit of novel entertainment to the social calendar of the coming week.”

50 years ago: “About 850 people are expected to congregate in Durango this weekend for the annual Colorado Jaycee convention, which will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Wayne Glazner is chairman of the Durango Jaycee state convention committee.”

25 years ago: “It’s six days to smooth cruisin’ the length of Main Avenue. And on the seventh day, construction crews will rest. Burnett Construction Co. this morning opened Main Avenue downtown to traffic, and Castle Rock Construction said it will open Main north of 32nd Street a week from today.”
