The third annual Garden to Table Cooking Matters class for families will start on Aug. 30 at the Pine River Library, sponsored by Pine River Shares.
The free six-week course teaches parents and their 6 to 12 year olds about eating healthy as a family and the importance of working together to plan and prepare healthy, low-cost meals.
The classes will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays. To graduate, participants must attend at least four of the six sessions.
This has been a popular class and space is limited, so interested participants should sign up early with Pine River Shares by calling 884-4747.
Participants will learn to identify healthy food options and portion sizes, food safety and preparation, reading food labels, helping kids develop good eating habits, preparing quick and easy healthy snacks, menu planning and smart shopping.
Participants get to enjoy the food prepared in class and take home a bag of groceries and recipes.
Those who complete the course will get a graduation certificate, a guidebook with nutrition information and recipes, and incentives for adults and kids.
