It is a mistake for the state of Colorado to not count the votes for candidates who dropped out of the Democratic presidential primary.
Regardless of whether the candidates are in or out of the race, people took the trouble to vote for them and in many cases shelled out the cost of a first-class stamp.
Yes, elections are about deciding who our elected officials will be. But they are also about having citizens’ voices heard.
A person may vote for a candidate to make a statement (such as that they wish the candidate didn’t drop out), not just to pick a winner. By not counting votes, the state is disenfranchising people.
The vote for my candidate was counted last night. But I can imagine feeling left out of the process if it wasn’t counted.
