City to spray for noxious weeds

Projects to be underway through Oct. 10
Scott Sallee, owner of Scott’s Pro-Lawn, applies weed control to Santa Rita Park in 2011.

To improve the quality of rights-of-way, parks and open spaces in the city parks system, maintenance crews are scheduled to conduct projects through mid-October that involve spot-spraying for noxious weed abatement, turf maintenance and turf fertilization.

Crews will aerate, fertilize, seed and top-dress the grounds at Memorial Park, in the 2900 block of Rio Vista Circle, adjacent to the Animas River through Sept. 8, weather permitting. The parking lot at 29th Street and Rio Vista Circle will be closed during operations to store materials for the project.

Maintenance staff will be spot-spraying for noxious weed abatement through Sept. 29, throughout the Durango parks system, Greenmount Cemetery and rights-of-way in the city. Herbicides to be applied during the project include Civitas Weed Free and Plateau.
