Coram should not receive safety award

In this morning’s Montrose Daily Press, there was a photo of a smiling state Sen. Don Coram holding his Man of the Year award from the Child Safety Network for his work on school bus safety.

It was extremely difficult for me to read about Coram receiving this award. I question his sincerity and commitment in truly wanting to keep our youth safe as this is a man who voted against a ban on bump stocks.

We are at the anniversary of the Oct. 1, 2017, shooting in which a man with no significant history of mental illness used guns fitted with bump stocks to kill 58 and injure more than 400. Over 1,100 rounds were fired in a 10-minute period.

If Coram wants to keep our kids safe, how could he have possibly voted against a ban on bump stocks?
