Extra year, money coming for CSU’s Eustachy
FORT COLLINS – Colorado State coach Larry Eustachy agreed to a one-year extension that will stretch his contract through the 2019-20 season.
The deal also includes an optional extension for another season. Eustachy is 74-35 since taking over the Rams in 2012.
Athletic director Joe Parker said Tuesday that Eustachy has “grown the program and put it even more prominently on the national stage.”
His current agreement includes bonuses such as $40,000 for a 20-win season, $100,000 for taking the Mountain West Conference championship, and $200,000 should the Rams make the NCAA Tournament.
Eustachy said Colorado State is “where I want to finish my career.” He is 476-293 in more than 25 seasons.

Cubs make a pair of moves on the infield
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Chicago Cubs and free-agent infielder Ben Zobrist agreed to a four-year contract.
The contract is worth $56 million. Zobrist, 34, is a switch hitter who plays second, third and the outfield, and he was an important spark for the Kansas City Royals in their run to the World Series title.
With the agreement, the Cubs then traded infielder Starlin Castro to the New York Yankees for right-hander Adam Warren and a player to be named.
The 25-year-old Castro hit .265 with 11 home runs and 69 runs batted in last season. He’s spent most of his career at shortstop, but shifted over to second base late this year.
The 28-year-old Warren was went 7-7 with a 3.29 earned-run average last season. He made 17 starts and pitched 43 games.

Dupuis hangs skates up because of blood clots
DENVER – Pascal Dupuis’ hockey career is over.
The Pittsburgh Penguins forward retired Tuesday because of a medical condition related to the blood clots that forced the 36-year-old to sit out most of last season.
Dupuis returned this fall and had two goals and two assists in 18 games.
Dupuis ends his career with 190 goals and 219 assists in 871 games for Pittsburgh, Minnesota, the Atlanta Thrashers (now the Winnipeg Jets) and the New York Rangers. He won a Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 2009.

Broncos waive quarterback Christian Ponder
ENGLEWOOD – The Denver Broncos waived third-string quarterback Christian Ponder on Tuesday, clearing room to add a defensive back to their roster.
The Broncos signed Ponder two weeks ago as insurance behind Brock Osweiler and rookie Trevor Siemian with Peyton Manning sidelined by an injured left foot.
Manning had a walking cast and boot removed last week and is set to begin light throwing Wednesday.
The Broncos could use some help in their secondary with safeties T.J. Ward (ankle), David Bruton Jr. (left knee) and Omar Bolden (right hamstring) all hurt.
Bruton said Monday he sprained his MCL and PCL and suffered a bone bruise in the Broncos’ 17-3 win at San Diego on Sunday.
Vick to lobby for law to protect animals in hot cars
HARRISBURG, Pa. – Michael Vick is heading to the Pennsylvania statehouse to lobby legislators on a bill that would help protect pets left in hot cars.
Vick was a star quarterback for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons when he pleaded guilty in 2007 to being part of a dogfighting ring and ended up serving 21 months in prison.
He’s now a backup quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
