And the West is History

75 YEARS AGO: “Army seeking Durango young men as pilots: A young man can earn a highly paid job and become an expert pilot. Applicants must be over 21, under 28, and not married.”

25 YEARS AGO: “Vandals claiming to be with the radical environmental movement Earth First! have closed Telluride’s controversial new golf course by poisoning some of the greens. Vandals used a still unidentified chemical to kill the grass and write messages on 11 of the greens and several of the tees. The messages include ‘Hayduke lives,’ a reference to one of the eco-terrorists in Edward Abbey’s The Monkey Wrench Gang.”
