And further, once not long ago after a procedure there, my wife got a $4,000 bill from an “out of network” provider.
And she was then insured by Blue Cross/Blue shield. As an attorney, I trashed the bill as she had authorized no such thing.
I hope these docs joining another company won’t result in more of these bills.
The Herald has reported that most of the financing for the city actually comes from retirees who live outside the city limits. Why? Because the city has an anti-annexation policy, even though its main source of sales tax revenue comes from those outside the limits.
That is bad policy, but still, the city has an interest in having good health care facilities. Otherwise those retirees with good incomes would move elsewhere.
The City Council needs to take an interest in what is happening to our main hospital. To do otherwise would risk the city’s main source of income.
In the meantime, I suggest that all having a procedure at Mercy write on the authorization form, “out of network providers are not authorized.”
