There’s a busy weekend on tap for Fort Lewis College athletics, with three of its fall teams playing home contests this weekend.
FLC women’s soccer, ranked 14th in the Division II national poll, will kick things off at 3:30 p.m. Friday against Colorado Christian. The Skyhawks are 8-1 and 4-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and are coming off a 1-0 victory Wednesday against Adams State.
The Cougars, meanwhile, are 4-4 and 1-3 in conference play and have lost their last three games.
The FLC volleyball team finally will get a chance to play inside the friendly confines of Whalen Gymnasium after opening the season on a 12-game road trip, one in which they went 1-11 and 1-3 in RMAC matches.
The Skyhawks will take on Western State at 7 p.m. Friday night before matching up at 7 p.m. Saturday with Adams State in a match with a bit of family intrigue. Bayfield High School alumnae Gabriella Rifilato is the Grizzlies’ setter and also is the daughter of first-year FLC head coach Kelley Rifilato and FLC football defensive coordinator Ed Rifilato, whose squad will travel to take on No. 5 CSU-Pueblo on Saturday.
FLC men’s soccer will bring the busy weekend to a close with a 3:30 p.m. Sunday contest against CSU-Pueblo. The Skyhawks first will try and end a three-game losing streak with a win over Adams State on Friday in Alamosa before returning home to take on the ThunderWolves.
FLC men’s soccer, which dropped out of the national rankings this week, currently is 4-3-1 and 1-3-0 in the RMAC.
