Recently, two Los Angeles city employees contracted diseases related to the mess caused and left by homeless camps.
Durango city employees see the exact type of mess caused by and left by homeless campers.
Our public servants do not have the proper hazmat gear with which to protect themselves as they work to police these areas that, while not as extensive as those in California sanctuary cities, are as toxic.
Our employees deserve a healthy workplace.
Failing that, they must have the hazmat gear needed to protect them as they work to protect us.
We do not send cops into the fray without body armor. We should not burden other city employees either.
