Grant program available to artists

The Durango Arts Center announces its new MicroGrants program, a funding program to support artists in La Plata, Archuleta, Montezuma, Dolores and San Juan counties.

The program distributes small but impactful funds to emerging and established artists, and is open to the center’s members and nonmembers. Artists must be currently living and creating work in one of the five counties surrounding Durango. Funding may be applied toward artistic needs depending on the proposal.

Arts center group to perform on Main

Durango Arts Center Applause! announces the return of “Mondays on Main” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Monday from May 26 to Sept. 1 on the patio of Cold Stone Creamery and Starbucks.

The shows are free. Middle and high school students in this program will sing and dance. Applause! is the center’s performing arts youth education program that offers musical and nonmusical classes, workshops and performances throughout the year.

Music in the Mountains to host fundraiser

Music in the Mountains will present its second annual 18-Hole Golf & BBQ Classic fundraiser tournament from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 3 at the Glacier Club.

A barbecue lunch with refreshments will be provided for players at the Glacier Club Clubhouse. Lunch also will be available to nonparticipants who sign up with Music in the Mountains. Funds from this event will support the music education programs and scholarships that benefit students in the community. Individuals or teams of four are encouraged to sigh up before May 27.

Substratum to host opening reception

“Quadripoint,” a fine art photography exhibit with photographers Phillip Noll Jr. and Monica Noll of New Mexico will host an opening-night reception from 5 to 7 p.m. June 1 at Substratum Gallery, 1021½ Main Ave.

The exhibit will include 36 fine art photographs, nine from each of the Four Corners states.
