Christian Gering extended his Fort Lewis College cross country season at the NCAA South Central Regional on Saturday.
He finished in 31 minutes, 19 seconds, good for 22nd place, which qualified him as an individual for the NCAA Division II National Championship meet.
The top six teams qualify for the championships, then the next three individuals not on those teams qualify as individuals.
Adams State won both the men’s and women’s team events.
Lauren Martin finished first in the women’s race at 20:38, and Western State’s Vegard Olstad won the men’s race in 29:57.
Western State, Colorado Mines, Metro State, West Texas A&M and New Mexcio Highlands qualified on the men’s side with Adams, while Western State, West Texas A&M, Metro State, UC-Colorado Springs and Tarleton State joined the Grizzlies from the women’s field.
FLC finished ninth as a men’s team.
Garrett Sapakoff followed Gering in 28th place at 31:31, Joey Brenner in 66th place at 33:01, Ryan Mott in 85th at 33:41, Tate Lagasca in 87th at 33:44, William Scoggins in 95th at 33:52 and Alex Kilman in 110th at 34:34.
The Skyhawks’ women’s team came in 12th place, led by Maddie Kruger’s 26th-place finish in 22:25.
Katherine Judge finished 50th in 22:58, Emily White 67th in 23:15, Katarina Medici 74th in 23:26, Kiara Glover 80th in 23:42, Madeigh Winsor 81st in 23:46 and Alexis Work 100th in 24:16.
The NCAA Championships will take place Nov. 23 in Spokane, Wash.
