And the West is History

100 years ago: “The Durango high school nine crossed bats with the Aztec nine in the last named town this afternoon, our boys having left for that point in charge of Professor Skaggs this morning.”

50 years ago: “Sixteen youths involved in an egg-throwing incident April 5 and their parents appeared before Dist. Judge James M. Noland Tuesday evening in La Plata County District Court to hear their fate. ‘Were this project of egg-throwing (aside too from the grand larceny project) confined to a mountain mesa or a barn-yard it could perhaps be written off as child’s play, but when the chosen arena is Main Street in a busy city, it takes on a seriousness which the participants could not have calculated without abandoning it.”

25 years ago: “New information uncovered during seven years of research on endangered fish in the San Juan River could stop construction on the Animas-La Plata Project before the reservoir sees a drop of water, U.S. Fish and Wildlife officials said Friday. Project proponents played down the news.”
