Clayroom announces upcoming art classes
The Clayroom, 171 E. Seventh St., is enrolling for these art classes available for toddlers to children age 12:
A toddler class will begin Saturday and will run for five weeks.
Drawing, clay, preschool, home-school classes and Monday Mud drop-in sessions will begin the week after spring break, March 31 to April 3.
Registration also is being accepted for summer classes.
The studio will be open for spring break, Monday to March 28, for walk-in pottery painting and private groups.

Sawaya Law Firm offers scholarship
The Sawaya Law Firm is offering The Driver Safety Scholarship Video Contest.
The scholarship was created to help promote safe-driving habits throughout Colorado and the entire country. The contest runs until April 25.
High school, college and law school students are encouraged to apply. The contest features five scholarships for students who create the best viral video promoting driver safety.
Videos can focus on topics such as the dangers of drinking and driving, texting and driving, driver error, fatigue, carelessness, etc.
Videos will be judged on several criteria, including the message, effort, creativity, production quality and viral success.
The awards are a first-place $2,500 scholarship; a second-place $1,000 scholarship; and three third-place $500 scholarships.

Nature Studies to host Spring Break Day Camp
Durango Nature Studies will host a Spring Break Day Camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday to March 28 in the Smiley Building’s Montessori classroom, 1309 East Third Ave.
Children can attend the whole week or only on specific days. The camp is open to children in first to third grade.
The cost is $175 for the week or $40 a day. Each day will focus on a different theme. There will be games, hikes, art and field trips.
Daily themes are: Monday – Desert Before Dinner; Tuesday – TransPLANTS and Pollination; Wednesday – Get Your Beak On; Thursday – What’s in the Animas?; and Friday – Ancestral Puebloan Archaeology.

Continuing-education classes available at FLC
Fort Lewis College Continuing Education Program will offer these classes:
“Get Paid to Talk: Learn to Make Money with Your Voice,” by VoiceCoaches Creative Voice Development Group, will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. April 2. This class will explore numerous aspects of voice-over work for television, audio books, documentaries, film, radio and the Internet. Participants will have the opportunity to record a commercial script during the class. The cost is $54.
“Nonprofit Management: Making a Difference – Financial Management,” by Paulette Church, will begin April 2. This five-part series features guest instructors and covers a variety of topics. The first session, “Storytelling for Gift Planning Success,” will help students practice and hone their stories under the guidance of Daniel Harris from Wells Fargo Philanthropic Services. The cost is $49 for one class or $159 for the entire series.

Grace Preparatory Academy of Durango announces these events:
Three students earned science-fair awards: Trevor Jordan’s project “A Wing of the Future” won second place overall and more than $200 in prizes. He will compete at the state science fair and has been named as an alternate for international competition. Keely Savage’s project “Sunscreen: Are You Being Lied To?” won the category Best Plant Sciences; and Aurora Murga’s project “Personality of Music” won the category Outstanding Behavior and Social Science.
The academy is accepting applications for the 2014-15 school year. The school is Durango’s private college preparatory high school and a member of the National Association of University Model Schools.

Park Elementary School to host book fair event
Park Elementary School will host its Book Fair Kickoff on April 4 with a Family Dinner & Movie Night.
Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. in the café and will include hot dogs, chili dogs, chili bowls, frito pies and salad. The movie will start at 6 p.m. in the café.
Participants should bring blankets and lawn chairs. The book fair will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from April 4 to April 11 in the library.
