City renews Gold designation as a Bicycle Friendly Community

The city of Durango retained its spot as one of the top Bicycle Friendly Community cities in the nation, according to The League of American Bicyclists, an education and advocacy organization founded in 1880.

The Bicycle Friendly America program provides Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond rankings to businesses, communities and universities based on bicycle facilities and programs. Communities must renew their applications every four years.

Durango excelled in “building blocks” including bicycle-friendly laws and ordinances and Bike Month/Bike to Work events.

There are 487 communities ranked in the nation. Durango is among only 34 with Gold designation this year.
