City could set park standards for others

I am so disappointed that the city of Durango is going to convert Folsom Park back to herbicide use.

It has been such a pleasure taking my family there to play baseball for the past two years and not having to think about any chemicals getting on our skin.

The grass there is just fine. Cut it a half-inch longer and it will be healthier.

On the other hand, I was happy to read that the “organic experiment” is going to be tried at a couple new parks.

I say, finish your contract with the mega corporation that is handling the city’s parks, and go local. Check out the Durango company that takes care of the Smiley building’s lawns. The space on the west side is used regularly and is so healthy.

Kudos to the Shaws for keeping that grass clean and healthy for the environment and for people (and dogs!)

Come on, city managers, set the standard for other cities to follow!
