Four Corners Community Band to resume practice in Cortez

The Four Corners Community Band will resume practice from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Monday beginning Jan. 14 at First Baptist, 100 N. Market St., in Cortez.

The voluntary band, made up of members ages 18 to nearly 80, requires that participants attend 60 percent of practices and join with at least high school experience in band music. Annual dues are small.

The band plays a variety of concert band styles, including classical, jazz, television, theme music, rock ’n’ roll and Broadway, at venues throughout the Four Corners.

“Though the membership has grown significantly in the past few years, we are still short on flutes and clarinets, and especially, percussionists,” band director Mark Allen said in a news release. “Feel free to attend any Monday night practice as an observer, if you would like to check it out.”

The new season will include music from the upcoming Disney movie “Aladdin” and medleys of hits.
