The Bayfield volleyball team played four close matches at Eaton High School’s inaugural tournament over the weekend and came away with two wins.
Bayfield beat Longmont and Loveland 2 games to 1 while falling to both Mead and Holy Family, 2-0.
Against Longmont, Bayfield won a tight first set, 29-27. Longmont came back and took the second set, 25-15, but BHS scored a 15-11 in the final set to win the game.
The team’s game against Loveland had similar results. BHS took the first set 25-21 and Loveland came back and took the second set, 25-15. With the game on the line, however, Bayfield managed to close the door on Loveland and take the final set, 15-12.
In its competition with Mead, Bayfield was neck and neck with the Mavericks, but Mead finished on top in both sets, 25-21 and 25-22.
Bayfield then took on Holy Family in its final game, but fell to the Tigers 27-25 and 25-18.
Annie Fusco leads the team with 65 kills and 40 digs on the season. Emily Nelson is right behind her with 36 digs.
Kenasea Byrd has nine blocks to lead the team in the category. Sage Killough, meanwhile, has served a team-high nine aces.
Bayfield is now 3-2 overall. The team will next play Sept. 7 when it visits Montezuma-Cortez.
