More than 1,200 residents in northeast Durango lost power for about one hour Tuesday morning after a cable faulted, according to La Plata Electric Association.

The outage occurred at 7:27 a.m. and power was restored to most customers by 8:21 a.m., said Hillary Knox, spokeswoman with LPEA. Seventy-two customers remained without power as of 8:50 a.m., and that number was reduced to 30 as of 9:27 a.m.

“The crew just isolated a small piece of cable that had the fault,” Knox said. “We have 30 (customers) still out of power up in Hillcrest, but crews are working to fix that equipment now.

“We’ve been having fault issues up in Hillcrest for a while and are in the middle of an emergency repair project to fix those issues moving forward.”
