I am writing in regard to Rick Gardner’s letter to the editor published Nov. 8.
As the father of a recent high school graduate and a current high school senior, I cannot fathom a parent being afraid of the questions in the survey. The questions asked in the survey are the same questions parents should be asking of their children.
We should have open channels to our children so we can guide them through all that they face growing up. How can we guide our children if we are not willing to engage with them on the issues they face as teens.
I agree with Mr. Gardner on one point: “Every piece of information they get no matter how seemingly innocent or well-meaning feeds someone’s agenda.” My agenda is simple: to help my children make good decisions about their sexuality, drugs, alcohol and coping with depression, among the many other issues they face growing up. This survey is a great conversation starter.
