Popes celebrate 50th

Longtime Bayfield residents Gary and Ruth (Dye) Pope celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 15, 2014. The couple married in Monte Vista on Dec. 17, 1964.

Gary was raised in the Sargent/Monte Vista area and Ruth was raised in central Nebraska. The couple met in Monte Vista through mutual friends.

Gary worked 40 years for Public Service/Xcel Energy and retired in October of 2007. Ruth was employed by both the Monte Vista and Bayfield school districts, working in the food service departments. They resided for many years in Monte Vista and moved to Bayfield in 1992.

The couple has three daughters, Kyla Beaman, Mindy Blazer and Ashli Smith, all of the Denver area, and six grandchildren that they enjoy spending time with. They also enjoy the outdoors, camping, fishing, four-wheeling, boating, hunting, photography and attending Bayfield High School sporting events and the Bayfield Senior Center. They are long-time members of the First Baptist Church of Bayfield.

The couple celebrated their anniversary in Monte Vista with family and over the Christmas holiday in Denver with their daughters and grandchildren.
