The high school spring sports season will blast out of the gates this weekend, with nearly every La Plata County team in action.

A couple of local contests will be held, but most teams will hit the road to begin their seasons.

The Durango girls lacrosse team is scheduled to play two home games this weekend. DHS will begin by hosting Telluride at 5 p.m. Friday. The Demons will then take on Santa Fe Prep at 11 a.m. Saturday. After that, the team will play eight consecutive road games before returning to Durango April 28.

The DHS boys lacrosse team, meanwhile, will hit the road for three games. The Demons will play against Santa Fe Prep on Friday, then face Duke City (Albuquerque) and Rio Rancho on Saturday.

The Ignacio girls soccer team also will be at home this weekend. The team will kick things off at 1 p.m. Saturday against county foe Bayfield.

The Durango girls soccer team will begin with a pair of away games, taking on Cañon City on Friday and Pueblo West on Saturday.

Durango and Bayfield baseball teams are both scheduled to compete in Montrose High School’s tournament, facing each other at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Ignacio’s baseball team is scheduled to begin its season at home Tuesday against Bayfield.

The Durango girls tennis team began its season last weekend with a pair of matches in Montrose, beating MHS but falling to Vail Mountain. This week, the team will head to Grand Junction, playing Steamboat Springs first on Thursday, and then competing in the 16-team Western Slope Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The Durango track and field team won’t travel far to start its season. The Demons will compete at Farmington High School’s invite on Saturday.

The Bayfield and Ignacio track teams, meanwhile, will begin next Friday at the Bayfield Invitational. The Demons will also compete in Bayfield’s meet.

The Durango girls golf team will tee off its season Monday in Palisade.
