The Durango High School baseball team avenged its Friday loss to Grand Junction High School with a 10-8 victory Saturday against the Tigers.
Seven different Demons scored runs to help DHS pick up the win. Ian Szura helped lead the charge, going 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs. Brady Hansen went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in a pair. Matt Pane also scored twice, while Jordan Stanley, Michael Benner, Liam Southerland and AJ Folk each scored once.
Stanley and Devin Davidovich also recorded RBIs in the win.
Tagert Bardin started on the mound for Durango, giving up four earned runs in four innings while striking out three and walking two. Folk pitched two innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out two. Stanley then closed out the game, pitching the final inning and giving up one run to secure the win for DHS.
Both teams are now 1-1 in the 5A/4A Southwestern League while Durango is 3-10 overall, and Grand Junction is 4-9.
Durango will next play a pair of nonleague foes before hosting Fruita Monument on April 22. Saturday, DHS will play at Cañon City (2-6). DHS will then play at county-rival Bayfield (9-4) at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
