Another change seen recently at Bayfield sporting activities is that kids are no longer allowed to play football behind the bleachers during the BHS home games. This has been a longstanding tradition at the field.
The ban is due to insurance regulations, said Rob Dean, the school's director of activities and facilities.
"I don't like this," Dean said. "It stinks."
But unfortunatly, we live in a litigious society, he said. When the wind blew a soccer goal on another team's player warming up for a game a few years ago, the district had to cover expenses for a broken back and other injuries, Dean said.
Last year, he began asking kids to play their games on the school's practice field, but insurance company representatives said that was a liability, too. The area where kids used to play ball probably will be fenced off in the future, Dean said.
