In early October, I was surprised to learn about Lauren Boebert’s false claim that Durango schools are providing litter boxes for students who “identify as cats.” For those who support Boebert, I want to say that just like you, Adam Frisch’s voters love their children. And just like you, we strive to support our children’s development while also setting boundaries to help them feel safe. Just like you, we are prey to political messages that try to make us fear and even hate people who vote differently.
La Plata County is home to people with a mix of political ideas, which is an advantage that is not true in every part of the country. We’ve had lots of opportunities to see that someone may vote differently than us and still be a considerate neighbor, doctor, coworker, friend.
I believe that we can each continue to support our preferred candidates without demonizing each other.
