Both the Intermountain League and Southern Peaks League struggled keeping up with the Bayfield High School track and field team Saturday.
The Wolverines won six individual events at the IML/SJL Invitational in Monte Vista, finishing first in the boys meet with 105 points and third in the girls meet with 77 points.
Alamosa won the girls meet with 100 points.
Morgan Allred cleared 8 feet on the girls pole vault for the win in a jumpoff over Ignacio’s Chrystianne Valdez.
Aubry Brown threw the shot put 47 feet, edging Clae Walters of South Park by nearly two feet for the title.
He also threw the discus 160-04 for the win. Brown’s seeded throw of 166-10 from last week in Pagosa Springs was the longest in the state this season regardless of classification.
Conner Kennedy cleared 21-09 in the boys long jump to finish first.
Brady Fields edged Pagosa Springs’ David McRee for the 110-meter hurdles title in 17.46 seconds.
Jessica Cusick continued her girls 800-meter run dominance, winning in 2:25.03.
The Wolverines’ boys 4x800-meter relay team of Trevor Gabbard, Alex Knight, Sloan Mazur and Gus Roberts took second in 8:55.45.
Fields, Preston Hardy, Kennedy and Brian Mashak finished second in the boys 4x100-meter relay in 44.94 seconds.
Carl Heide finished third in the boys 110-meter hurdles in 17.97 seconds.
Kennedy was third in the boys 100-meter dash in 11.91 seconds.
Bayfield’s girls 4x200-meter relay finished in 1:55.04, good for third place for Maddi Foutz, Amber Johnson, Courtney Bayles and Jade Sanders.
Foutz also was third in the girls 200-meter dash in 27.93 seconds.
Ignacio High School
The Bobcats know their way around a pole vault.
David Cooper won the boys event at 10-06 in a jumpoff, and Chrystianne Valdez took second in a jump off to Bayfield’s Morgan Allred at 8-00.
Tyler Riepel also was third in the boys event at 9-00.
Bryan Gram cleared 18-07 in the boys long jump for seventh.
Sky Cotton took third in the girls 100-meter dash in 13.63 seconds with teammate Azala Perez close behind in fifth in 13.86 seconds.
Isis Gonzales finished fifth in the girls 400-meter dash in 1:07.69.
Now both the Bobcats and Wolverines will turn their attention to the CHSAA state championships next weekend in Lakewood.
