‘Mediocre parent better than nanny state’

I recently learned the Bayfield School District dropped comprehensive sex ed as allowed by Colorado law. Good for them for not pretending to be parents. Don’t parents talk to their kids about the birds and bees anymore?

For a couple of decades, parents in America have abdicated their parenting responsibilities to the state. Many expect the state to teach their kids morals, manners, sex ed, feed the kids breakfast before school. The list goes on. It’s easier that way – and a disaster. Look around at our once great country in shambles.

Everywhere we look, there is another crisis or victim, too many to count. Look deeper and see that most of them can be traced to a real crisis of parenting or lack thereof. Maybe since the state raised many of the current crop of young parents, they don’t know it’s their job to teach their kids about sex/consequences, drug abuse, morals, work ethic, manners, accountability, self-discipline and honesty. Schools should focus on academics and technical skills. That is their lane. Parents can focus on everything else.

Yes, it's difficult to parent, but if your parents did their job, you knew that before you became one. No parent is perfect, but even a mediocre parent is better than the nanny state.

Congrats to all the parents doing their job. To those wondering why their kids are a wreck, wake up and get in the game. To Bayfield School District, thanks for staying in your lane.
